Work has begun by the Suffolk Wildlife Trust to make the Carnser in Snape, drier under foot. The Carnser – an ancient rural name for a raised path over wet ground – has become very boggy and unwalkable at the eastern end of the path which runs parallel to Sandy Lane. It is a popular circular walk for many people in the village.
Parish Council Chairman Mike Hill says Snape has been requesting remedial action by the County Council which at first denied there was a problem but when then asked to cut the grass agreed a problem existed but said it lacked funds to tackle it. Now the Suffolk Wildlife Trust, who recently purchased the surrounding land, has undertaken to clear the ditches on both sides of the Carnser and run a drain under the walking surface.

A most interesting and enjoyable evening was spent in a packed village hall to listen to Mark Mitchels talking about the life of Elizabeth Garrett Anderson who became the first woman in the UK to qualify as a doctor and, as a memorial to Newson Garrett, her father, Snape Primary School was built in 1905. Following the vote of thanks everyone enjoyed a glass of wine and some really delicious eats, so a big thank you to all members who helped make this special Open Meeting such a success.
Council Matters...
Thursday 9th April, 7.00pm for 7.30pm start in the village hall. There will be a display of historic photographs from Mr Brian Boulton and the usual village reports will be on display. It is hoped to have a presentation from Rob Macklin about the various projects that the RSPB is currently running in and around Snape.
Everyone is most welcome to attend.
